he Attention procedure is when a certain situation calls for active personnel within headquarters to stand directly in front of their seats. While at Attention, personnel may not type, move, speak, or turn until the personnel whom the headquarters instructs them to carry on (exact commands below). Personnel holding drinks should drop them immediately out of respect (Click self > Drop hand item), though it will not be a direct requirement unless called Front and Center.
When standing at attention, anyone on the front row is required to stand directly behind their chair. This is via your avatars perspective. If an officer requires them to turn and face them, they are to call them to turn as per drill training.
Below are the situations in which personnel must stand at Attention
All attentions called should be done in a yellow chat bubble, including from the Sentry, Duty Desk and when called by an officer.
1. For the front row and information desk only. "ATTENTION" - A commissioned officer of the rank O1 ENS/2nd LT to O4 LCDR/Major enters the Headquarters through the sentry (officers who are a higher rank than the one entering are not required to stand, but should remain quiet - unless in the front row)
2. For the whole HQ "ATTENTION ON DECK" - A commissioned officer of the rank O5 CDR/Lt Col or higher enters the HQ through the sentry (officers who are a higher rank than the one entering are not required to stand, but should remain quiet - unless in the front row)
2a. If the officer is wearing a Medal of Honor (blue ribbon with gold star) on their avatar, the person calling the "ATTENTION ON DECK" is to follow this by the "HAND, SALUTE" order.
3. Attentions will NOT be performed for the Room Control account
4. The Duty Officer/NCO or any Commissioned Officer, Warrant Officer, CMDCM, SEAC, SgtMaj/SEAC/CMSAF may give the command "ATTENTION ON DECK" or "ATTENTION" if calling a specific person to Attention, you must say: "(full name), ATTENTION!"
5. Any person under the Office of the Joint Inspector General may call Attention to the FRONT ROW ONLY. This can be done at any given time so long as it's not interrupting their recruitment. The proper command for this is "ATTENTION"
6. The Duty Desk may call their appropriate side's front row to "attention" in order to prevent sleepers. The Duty Desk may call the front rows to "Attention" at any time. "Attention on Deck" can also be called if given permission by an officer. (O1+)
Notes: In the event that two officers are entering the sentry gates at the same time, the "rest" command will be given by the higher ranking officer. In the event that both officers are the same rank entering the room, the officer that enters last will give the "rest" command.
On Officer's entry
When an officer enters through the main hatch, a certain designated person will be required to call out "ATTENTION" for O1 ENS/2nd LT to O4 LCDR/Major or "ATTENTION ON DECK" for O5 CDR+ or those with the MoH the preference is given to:
1. Duty Desk Operator (DDO)
2. Highest ranking sailor in the front row may call "ATTENTION ON DECK" if the Duty Desk is vacant.
Order for precedence on "Attention" call
1. Sentry
2. Duty Desk
3. Echo - R&R
Notes
- Failing to stand at Attention will immediately result in being kicked from the room. If it happens multiple times, you may be subject to disciplinary action
- You may call "At ease" or "Carry On" before passing through the gate, in which case, personnel will not be required to stand. HOWEVER, if you pass through the gate without first giving the At ease command, you must wait to call "At ease" until all personnel are standing, and the appropriate person has called out "Attention on Deck"
- While the HQ is at Attention, an officer may approach and directly face someone in the front row. If you are at Attention, and an officer stands directly in front of you and faces you, you must salute. The officer may/may not return the salute
- If you are calling the whole room to attention, the proper command is "ATTENTION ON DECK". However, for calling individuals or just the front/back row, it's merely "ATTENTION"
Summary of Commands
- "ATTENTION" - used to call attention for a commissioned officer entering HQ or when the caller requires just the front row to come to attention
- "ATTENTION ON DECK" - used to call the whole room (HQ) to attention or for when an officer of O5 CDR/Lt Col or above enters through sentry
- "Front row, ATTENTION" - used to call only the front row to attention
- "Name, ATTENTION" - used to call only an individual sailor to attention
- "At ease" or "Carry on" - resume what task they were previously doing prior to the attention (it is generally discouraged to call "At ease/Carry on" before all personnel have come to Attention, as coming to Attention ensures activeness)
- "Stand at ease" - must remain standing but can talk
If they are asked a question - including when they are at attention - they are required to answer. "At ease" does not need to be called to answer a question if it is directly asked.
